Jan 11, 2014 · Before you can understand what HTTPS Everywhere does, you first have to understand what HTTPS and HTTP are. Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is the foundation of the internet. It is the protocol that is used to transmit all sorts of data, including web page content, from a server to your home computer (or vice versa).
The Electronic Frontier Foundation, opining that "In an ideal world, every web request could be defaulted to HTTPS", has provided an add-on called HTTPS Everywhere for Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Chromium, and Android, that enables HTTPS by default for hundreds of frequently used websites. HTTPS Everywhere is an extension for Chrome (and Chromium-based browsers like Vivaldi that support Chrome extensions), Firefox and Opera. The Electronic Frontier Foundation created HTTPS Everywhere in collaboration with The Tor Project. With HTTPS Everywhere installed and enabled, common issues with HTTP requests are rewritten to HTTPS. Brave does all that work for you. Simple, right? Whenever possible using the HTTPS Everywhere list, Brave automatically upgrades to HTTPS for secure, encrypted communications when an ordinary browser would use an insecure connection. I then turned off all my extensions again and tested it solely with https-everywhere and it is definitely the culprit. For now I just disabled it for that site. It's not a major issue but it could potentially cause problems on other video sites which doesn't use https. Once you’ve gone HTTPS, you definitely want to prevent users from accessing your site over an insecure connection. You can do this in Cloudflare by 301 redirecting all HTTP traffic to HTTPS. Under Crypto settings, find the Always use HTTPS option and turn it On. Enable HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS)
